Following the success of the Demidov Acting Technique Retreats in Poland, we are very pleased to announce a Scene Study Retreat taking place at Wonderful Escapes in Wales in Summer 2026.
The aim is to bring together actors from all over the world who are committed to and interested in working more intensively with the Demidov Acting Technique, led by two certified Demidov Acting Technique teachers. In a spirit of openness, generosity and support, actors will discover the power of a vibrant internal technique and the flow of an inner transformative process, the ability to surrender to the creative freedom of perception, and the driving forces of energies that are beyond our conscious mind.
This five-day course is dedicated to the Demidov School’s approach to working with circumstances and character given by an author. It will further develop the technique of “inexact” or “creative repetition,” enriching characters, deepening relationships and working with more heightened circumstances by utilizing the organic approach. During this course, we take new steps toward mastering the art of creative transformation (embodiment), as we approach character via scenes from Contemporary Realist plays, chosen by you and agreed between you, your scene partner and the facilitator.
On this course you will be introduced to sophisticated approaches to working with the text. These new methods will further develop the basic skill of “assigning” the role’s text.actors will work as an ensemble and have the opportunity to dive more deeply into their potential as artists. We will work on the foundations of the technique through the Demidov Etudes, as well as discovering the development and deepening of character and the power of circumstances, through work on scenes from a given play.
The group will stay and work together on the farm at Wonderful Escapes for the duration of the retreat, with delicious vegetarian food prepared by our hosts. It offers the opportunity to escape the distractions and stresses of everyday modern living to focus on our artistic development. In addition to the class work sessions, time will be allocated for discussions and sharing of observations about the ongoing process.
There will also be evening sessions offered that are dedicated to exercises that foster a heightened sense of perception, awaken creative instincts, and cultivate a shared sense of community. These sessions will include explorations in voice, movement, and rhythm—practices designed to deepen our connection to ourselves, each other, and the creative process.
Participants will work in two groups, with the opportunity to alternate between them throughout the retreat. The two groups will then come together as one ensemble, uniting the work in a shared creative space in a spirit of mutual exchange and reflection. In true Demidov spirit, we are not concerned with the result, but only with the process. With unconditional love for the actors, Demidov’s path restores the value and the power of actor’s art and faith in the actor’s own talent.
The Retreat was Conceived and is organised by Demidov Studio London, in collaboration with Demidov Studio Athens. Teachers for the Retreat will be Andrei Biziorek, Director of Demidov Studio Vienna and Demidov Studio London, and Vicky Georgiadou, Director of Demidov Studio Athens.
