DEMIDOV ACTING TECHNIQUE ONE DAY INTRODUCTORY INTENSIVE

This One Day Intensive Workshop is an ideal introduction to the Demidov Acting Technique, and a chance to go deeper into the work for actors familiar with the work.

During this intensive, you will be introduced to Demidov’s Culture of Creative Freedom, at the root of Demidov Organic Acting Technique, which sets it apart from other techniques and approaches to acting.  You will be introduced to Demidov’s signature etudes (improvisational exercises with a given text). Through Demidov’s etudes we get a first taste of what it means to truly live in the moment, to truly see and hear on stage, to remain ‘here and now’. We are encouraged to trust our spontaneous urges, and exercise creative freedom. We do so by surrendering to the genuine life that develops on its own.

The Demidov School approaches the creative process as an indivisible whole – everything we need is already in us from the beginning. We learn to trust our own innate talent. Demidov etudes spontaneously evoke circumstances, character and relationships. They stimulate our unpredictability and emotional richness, and instigate the free flow of subconscious creativity.

On this intensive you will study techniques intrinsic to the Art of Living Onstage: trust the life that is already there and follow it; give in to your first impression or experience completely so that it develops on its own; green-light your urges while letting them continue to develop. In this way, acting becomes effortless.

The Demidov School was created in the latter part of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century by Nikolai Demidov, a close associate of Stanislavsky. As founding director of the Moscow Art Theatre’s School, and one of the three original teachers of the Stanislavsky System, Nikolai Demidov uncovered the professional secrets that puts actors in touch with their own creative individuality by teaching them to recognise and follow their artistic instincts, and he was able to solve the problems of the actor’s creative state that Stanislavsky never could.

This Intensive will be led by Demidov Studio London Director, Andrei Biziorek.
